Foreign Trade Zone

Gateway Commerce Center is part of Foreign Trade Zone No. 31, one of only two foreign trade zone (FTZ) sites in the St. Louis area.  As a result, companies operating at the site can capture major economic benefits largely unavailable elsewhere in the region.

FTZ No. 31 is a public/private sector venture operated by the Tri-City Regional Port District.

Specific benefits include:

  • Import duty reduction or elimination on products manufactured, assembled, or processed in an FTZ.
  • Duty reduction or elimination on imported goods warehoused in an FTZ.
  • U.S. duty elimination when goods are re-exported from an FTZ to a foreign country or another FTZ.
  • Simplified customs procedures, allowing expedited movement of inventory and supporting a just-in-time inventory environment.

These advantages are especially important for the following industries:

  • Apparel
  • Automotive
  • Communications
  • Electronics
  • Fragrances
  • Pharmaceutical

Gateway's inclusion in Foreign Trade Zone No. 31 is a major asset for companies located there. FTZ status offers companies economic benefits, including duty waivers and tax exemptions, and operating efficiencies, such as expedited customs procedures.
